Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Masoud Pezeshkian are set to meet in Moscow next week, according to Iranian media.

Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Pezeshkian, are expected to discuss continued economic cooperation and "geopolitical issues" next week on the sidelines of a summit of gas-exporting nations, according to the Tasnim news agency, citing Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali.

The ambassador stated that the meeting will take place on October 27.

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia and Iran—two of the most heavily sanctioned nations in the world—have drawn increasingly closer. This week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Iran for the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine.
