Analysis: The road to the Trump job is full of conflicts of interest

Elon Musk's role in the sphere surrounding Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has grown to the point that they both now agree that the X owner should have a role in Trump's eventual government. That's what the Washington Post's Marianne LeVine, Jeff Stein and Trisha Thadani write in an analyzing text.

They write that Musk's right-wing shift has been overturned by controversy. In the past few weeks alone, he has published fake photos depicting Kamala Harris as a communist and spread radical conspiracy theories.

The role he is offered is leader of a commission to reduce government costs. The Washington Post writers write that there are many possible conflicts of interest between that role and Musk's enormous business empire.

Forbes Mary Whitfill Roeloffs writes that it is not very likely that Musk will be able to have any role in Trump's eventual government.

"Entrepreneurs who take government jobs usually sell their shares and holdings to avoid conflicts of interest, but it's unlikely that Musk would be able to do that with his large stakes in companies like Tesla, SpaceX and X."

Elon Musk agrees to role in possible Trump administration

Donald Trump says Tesla and X owner Elon Musk has agreed to lead an efficiency commission if he wins this fall's presidential election, Reuters reports.

Musk and Trump have previously openly talked about the idea, but now they must agree. The idea is for Musk and the commission to review the entire government's finances and suggest ways to cut back on spending.

Trump's comments came in a speech to business leaders in New York where he also said, among other things, that he is open to creating specific areas in the United States where taxes are minimal and restrictions on businesses are few.
