Ceasefire
Hamas: No progress on second phase of ceasefire

The latest talks between Hamas and Israel on the second phase of the ceasefire have so far not borne fruit, Basem Naim, a senior official in the terrorist organization, told AFP.

The first phase, lasting 42 days, expires tonight, but according to the agreement, fighting cannot resume while negotiations on the second phase are underway. It is unclear whether the talks in Egypt will continue during the day. Naim told AFP that he “has no idea” when the negotiations will resume.

Yesterday, two Egyptian security sources told Reuters that Israel wants to extend the first phase of the ceasefire by another 42 days. A Hamas spokesman said today that the proposal had been rejected.

Clear: US to sell 35,000 heavy bombs to Israel

The Trump administration has approved the sale of over 35,000 heavy bombs and 4,000 warheads to Israel, several media outlets report. The value of the sale is said to be just over three billion dollars.

Normally, Congress takes a position on arms deals, but not in this case. Secretary of State Marco Rubio justifies the fact that Congress has been bypassed by saying that the deal constitutes an “emergency” for the US national security interest.
