US demands apology after "fiasco" - but Zelensky won't agree

Volodymyr Zelensky should apologize for turning the meeting with Donald Trump into a "fiasco", believes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

- There was no reason for him to go in there and become hostile, Rubio says in an interview with CNN tonight.

In the interview, Rubio also questions whether Zelensky even wants peace. During the interview, the Secretary of State, who has called Vladimir Putin a "war criminal", "murderer" and "monster" for years, did not want to point the finger at the Russian president, notes the New York Times.

- I'm not going to fall into the trap of saying who is evil and who is good. People can draw their own conclusions.

But Zelensky does not seem to heed the American demand for an apology. When he was interviewed on Fox News earlier in the night, he was repeatedly asked if he planned to apologize:

- No, I respect the president and I respect the American people. I think we have to be very open and very honest, Zelensky said.

Zelensky arrives in London – meets Starmer this afternoon

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left Washington DC early Saturday morning after the derailed meeting with Donald Trump, flight data shows.

"He leaves after 24 disastrous hours in DC," notes the major account OSINT Technical, which follows the Ukraine war closely, in a post on X.

The presidential plane landed in London at 12.03 Swedish time. The plane carried a Ukrainian flag and was received by a motorcade, according to images published by Sky News.

In a statement, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that he will receive Zelensky at Downing Street on Saturday.

The president will also participate in Sunday's summit on the Ukraine war. About a dozen European leaders have been invited to the meeting, including Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

In London, Zelensky is being met by friends. He has received massive support from Europeans since Donald Trump's high-profile scolding in the White House.

Zelensky: Ukraine must be heard and not forgotten

The Ukrainian president thanks once again for the support after the clash in the White House. On Telegram, Volodymyr Zelensky writes that it is very important that Ukraine is heard, and that no one forgets the country, neither now nor when the war is over.

"For people in Ukraine, it is important to know that they are not alone, that their interests are represented in every country, in every corner of the world."

During the meeting, both Donald Trump and JD Vance accused the Ukrainian leader of not showing enough gratitude towards the United States. A short time later, Zelensky was thrown out of the White House. He has since thanked world leaders and allies 32 times on X alone since 9:30 p.m. on Friday night, Expressen writes.

After the meeting, Donald Trump mockingly called Zelensky a "big shot," a high-flyer. Before boarding Air Force One to Mar-a-Lago, Trump said that the United States is not looking for a ten-year war, writes Sky News.

- He wants to come back right now. It's not possible.

Zelensky: Wish the United States stood more firmly by our side

After his 24 unsuccessful hours in the United States, the Ukrainian president once again thanks the country for the support he has received. In a post on X, Volodymyr Zelensky writes that the United States' support "has been important in helping us survive." He also writes that he wishes the United States would "look more formally" at the situation in Ukraine, and that the country stood more firmly by Ukraine's side.

"We need to be honest and direct with each other to understand our common goals. It is crucial for us to have President Trump's support,” Zelensky writes.

The Norwegian who nominated Trump for the Peace Prize is starting to have doubts

The Norwegian politician Christian Tybring-Gjedde nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize on two occasions during his first term. But after the lecture by Volodymyr Zelenskyj in the White House and the polite tone towards Vladimir Putin, the chances of a third nomination look worse, he tells NBC News.

– Right now I don't think there are prospects for a peace prize. But you never know.

The fact is that Trump seems very keen to join the group of presidents who receive the Nobel Prize, writes NBC. On several occasions, both he and people in his administration have mentioned it as a possibility.

But a ceasefire in Europe on Putin's terms is unlikely to go down well with the Nobel Committee in Norway, says Tybring-Gjedde.

– This is very tough for all of us, because we are the ones who end up in danger if Russia continues to take territory.
