Historic climate meeting is held in the climate's "blind spot"
Starting Monday, Kenya will host a first African climate summit, ACS 23, several media reports. AP notes that the meeting is being held in the part of the world that is said to be the worst affected by the consequences of climate change, but at the same time contributes the least to development.
One of the major goals of the participating countries is to secure money for the expansion of weather measurement stations. In Europe there are 345 such radar facilities, in North America 291, and in Africa 37.
- The continent as a whole is a blind spot for climate risks, says Asaf Tzachor at the Center for the Study of Existential Risk, according to AP.

Warmest recorded winter ever in Australia
Australia has had the warmest winter ever recorded there, local media reports. According to the country's meteorological agency, the winter was 1.53 degrees warmer than the average over time - and the very warmest since measurements began in 1910.
According to scientists, global warming and sunny weather are behind the record mark.
The previous record year was 1996, which was 1.46 degrees above average, reports ABC News. Meanwhile, all winters since 2012 have been warmer than the average between the years 1961 and 1990, according to The Guardian.

Thousands evacuated as Typhoon Haikui reaches Taiwan
Taiwan braces for Typhoon Haikui approaching the island. Air, train and ferry services have been suspended and close to 3,000 people have been evacuated, according to several news agencies. Schools and workplaces are closed and residents are asked to be vigilant.
The tropical storm has already caused heavy downpours and is expected to move in with full force over the island during Sunday morning, Swedish time. The authorities expect a major impact throughout Taiwan and the military has mobilized soldiers in the parts expected to be worst affected.
