A peace agreement with Iran will be signed on Sunday, claims Donald Trump.

It will “definitely not happen”, Iran responds.

“Immediately after it is signed, the Strait of Hormuz is OPEN TO ALL”, writes US President Donald Trump about the agreement on Truth Social.

In the same post, he announces that it is planned to be signed tomorrow, Sunday.

Iran denies

The claim has not been well received by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which accuses Trump of an “unusual insistence”, reports CNN. According to Iran, they have not agreed on when the agreement will be signed.

A post on Telegram suggests that the US president wants the signing to coincide with his birthday on June 14.

“Some observers believe that his insistence may be driven by a desire to use the occasion symbolically and turn it into a personal PR stunt,” the Revolutionary Guards wrote.

“Let’s wait and see”

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that a peace agreement would likely be signed by both sides within 24 hours.

That is not true, according to Iran.

“We will have to wait and see the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, even if it is not tomorrow,” Esmaeil Baghaei, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told state media.

“The possibility that this could happen in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the reluctance of the other side, we must be careful in commenting on this process.”
