Despite Iranian threats and uncertainties, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is to some extent underway. A total of 115 ships have passed since Tuesday, the UN maritime agency IMO announced.

The announcement comes after the IMO on Thursday temporarily suspended its efforts to assist around 600 ships that are estimated to be stuck in the waters around the strait.

The reason for the pause was an attack on a Singapore-flagged ship that passed out into the Gulf of Oman on Thursday. According to information to American media, Iranian forces were behind the shelling.

Many of the ships now plying the vital waterway do so at the urging of the IMO and Oman through a corridor along the Omani coast. But Iran's Revolutionary Guard has warned that this is happening without Tehran's permission and that the ships could therefore be stopped.
