Shortening working hours is a profile issue for left-wing President Lula da Silva and was supposed to be voted on Thursday, but it has been postponed.
It is seen as a setback for Lula da Silva, who is currently facing setbacks in public opinion ahead of the presidential election in October. His main opponent, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, has backed a proposal that would give workers greater opportunities to negotiate their working hours.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva and the well-known challenger Flavio Bolsonaro may encounter unexpected opposition in the autumn elections, writes AFP.
A new opinion poll shows increased support for Augusto Cury, psychiatrist and author of self-help books. With his slogan “Brazil just wants to be happy”, he has about ten percent of the vote with one month to go before the election.
While Lula da Silva is on the left and Bolsonaro on the right, Cury wants to position himself in the middle. Cury has a long way to go before he can really challenge in the election, but he stands out strongly among the other candidates.
