A special dollar coin with Donald Trump's face on it has started selling in connection with the 250th anniversary of the United States. This is reported by several media outlets.

According to federal law and tradition, living people may not be depicted on American money, but the US Treasury Department claims that the coin is completely legal – both as a collector's item and a means of payment. The department refers to a law from 2020 that allows the production of coins "symbolic of the 250th anniversary of the United States" in 2026.

The last time something like this happened was when then-President Calvin Coolidge put his face on a coin in connection with the country's 150th birthday in 1926.
