Sánchez: No evidence of Moroccan plan

There is no “concrete evidence” that Morocco was behind the large influx of migrants into the exclave of Ceuta this summer, according to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

On Wednesday evening, tens of thousands of Spaniards demonstrated against the government’s handling of the crisis.

Sánchez said in parliament that he understands that many suspect that Morocco was trying to attack Ceuta and Spain, but that it is not possible to confirm this at the moment. However, he noted that Moroccan police failed to intervene for ten hours and that they want to know why.

At the end of July, there was chaos in Ceuta when up to 72,000 people arrived there from surrounding Morocco. 82 people lost their lives.

Spanish police reports have revealed a number of Moroccan shortcomings. According to ABC, a forthcoming report will show that Moroccan agents were present in the crowds.
