WP: The elite loved AI – now they're scared
In 2023, the World Economic Forum in Davos was buzzing about the possibilities of the new AI technology. During this year's meeting, it was rather the risks that dominated, writes the Washington Post.
- I'm nervous about this, and I think it's good that we're nervous about this, says Open AI CEO Sam Altman during a panel discussion in Davos.
The UN secretary-general said in a speech on Wednesday that the "twin dangers" of AI and climate chaos were discussed at length at the forum.
- But despite that, we don't have an effective global strategy to deal with any of them.

The billionaire call in Davos: Tax us, we can afford it
Over 250 billionaires and multi-millionaires are urging the political elite in Davos to increase the tax burden on the world's wealth, the Guardian reports.
"Our wish is simple: we ask you to tax us, the richest in society," they write in an open letter that continues:
"It will transform extreme and unproductive private wealth into investment in shared democratic futures".
Among the wealthy who have signed the petition are Disney heiress Abigail Disney, Valerie Rockefeller, descendant of oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller, and "Succession" star Brian Cox.
