Typhoon Yagi
1,000 canceled flights and a million evacuated - but no deaths in the "super typhoon"
In total, over a million people have been evacuated from Typhoon Yagi in southern China and on Hainan Island, and over 1,000 flights have been cancelled. It seems to have had an effect – no deaths have been reported, Reuters and Bloomberg write.
The storm is the strongest of the year in the region, and the Hong Kong stock exchange closed on Friday for the first time due to a typhoon, writes Bloomberg.
Around 830,000 households are without electricity after the storm's progress with wind speeds of at most 65 meters per second. Winds are expected to ease before the typhoon moves in over northern Vietnam on Saturday.

Germany wants to take over asylum center in Rwanda from Britain
Germany could send asylum seekers to Rwanda, after Britain scrapped plans to do the same. This is reported by several media.
It mainly concerns the around 10,000 asylum seekers a year who cross the EU's eastern border to counter Russian and Belarusian "hybrid warfare", says German Migration Minister Joachim Stamp according to Der Spiegel.
- It would prevent Putin's and Lukashenko's propaganda from luring Iraqis, Syrians and Afghans to Minsk or Moscow with the promise of taking them to Europe, he says.
The idea is to take over the accommodation for asylum seekers that Britain built before new Prime Minister Keir Starmer decided to scrap the plans in July

- We need more weapons to drive the Russian forces away from our country, he said right after the US promised a new support package worth more than the equivalent of 2.5 billion kroner, writes AFP.
Several European countries and Canada also promised new arms deliveries. Volodymyr Zelenskyy recalled that "a significant number" of previously promised air defense systems have not yet been delivered.

American activist shot dead in the West Bank
A 26-year-old activist with American and Turkish citizenship has been shot dead at a demonstration against the increasing Israeli settlements in the town of Beita near Nablus in the occupied West Bank. The BBC reports.
Aysenur Ezgi Eygi is said to have been shot in the head by Israeli forces, according to local media reports. She was taken to hospital by ambulance but her life could not be saved.
On Friday, the Israeli army withdrew from Jenin further north in the West Bank after a ten-day offensive, according to AFP. The army has killed 36 people during the offensive, half of whom have been confirmed as combatants.
Turkey condemns what it calls the "assassination" of Ezgi Eygi, according to a statement cited by AFP, while the United States says it is "seeking more information."
