The Russian invasion|The response of the outside world

Expert: Ukraine is boxing with one hand behind its back

On Friday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked once again for long-range robots but, just like before, received a flat refusal from his allies in the West. In SVT's Aktuellt, Oscar Jonsson, PhD in Russian warfare, says that he understands why the Ukrainian president so badly wants weapons that reach far into Russia.

- Not having that range is for Ukraine like fighting with one hand behind your back in a boxing match, he says.

He says the fear in the West, led by the United States, is that Russia could interpret the delivery of such weapons as a provocation for war.

During Friday's meeting in Germany, however, a number of Western countries promised new large aid packages to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy after a new billion-dollar package from the US: "We need more weapons"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again urged the world to send more weapons - and allow them to be used against targets inside Russia - at the summit at the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Friday. This is reported by international media.

- We need more weapons to drive the Russian forces away from our country, he said right after the US promised a new support package worth more than the equivalent of 2.5 billion kroner, writes AFP.

Several European countries and Canada also promised new arms deliveries. Volodymyr Zelenskyy recalled that "a significant number" of previously promised air defense systems have not yet been delivered.
