Kremlin: Decide for yourselves if Putin is joking about Harris

Vladimir Putin's statement that he supports Kamala Harris in the US presidential election baffles the world. Reuters reports that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov now says that everyone "must decide for themselves" whether Putin was serious or joking.

In a televised speech at an economic conference in Vladivostok, Putin said, among other things, that he supports Harris because "Biden recommended her" and that she has "such an infectious laugh."

The statement is in line with how Putin related to Joe Biden. Putin has said several times that he prefers him to Donald Trump, a statement that they have also interpreted as ironic or as downright trolling.

The statement is in line with how Putin previously related to Joe Biden. In February, the Russian president said he preferred him as president over Donald Trump. At the time, the statement was interpreted either as Trump being viewed as a less favorable president from a Russian perspective, or that Putin simply wanted to keep the ex-president "on his toes."
