Berlin's culture minister resigns after funding scandal
Berlin's top politician in the cultural sector, Sarah Wedl-Wilson, is resigning after a budget scandal. This after less than a year in office, German media report.
The cultural administration in the German capital has financed 13 different anti-Semitism prevention efforts with 2.6 million euros. As the ultimate responsible party, Sarah Wedl-Wilson approved the payments. But the money was allocated on arbitrary grounds, without sufficient scrutiny or transparency. Several of the projects have clear links to the Christian Democratic Party CDU.
Wedl-Wilson herself has described it as the administrative processes having been "complex", but according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, it is actually quite simple: She has violated the state's budget rules.

Nine out of ten in Mexican World Cup city feel scared
The cartel war in the Mexican city of Guadalajara is terrifying the population, according to a new survey referenced by CNN. More than 90 percent of residents feel that the situation is unsafe – just over ten percentage points higher than in a similar survey in December.
In the Zapopan district, which is located just west of Guadalajara's city center and is hosting this summer's World Cup, the situation is somewhat better. But 70 percent still feel unsafe.
The survey period began on February 23, shortly after the notorious drug kingpin El Mencho was killed by the country's military.
