Trump's USA

The War on the Media
Risk of a Stiff Atmosphere at Annual Journalists' Dinner

For the first time, Donald Trump is attending the annual correspondents' dinner in Washington, reports NBC News. The event is being held on Saturday evening local time and this time it will be without a comedian as host.

The evening could be "strange" in several ways, not least because Trump has a strained relationship with the media, to say the least, writes the PBS journalist who himself has experience from the dinner. At the dinner, the Wall Street Journal is to be praised for its reporting on letters that acquaintances sent to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. According to the newspaper, Trump was among that group.

However, there are reports that the president plans to leave the event before then.

Midterm elections in the USA
Republican crush when the ballot boxes are compared

The Republicans' campaign funds ahead of the autumn midterm elections are clearly larger than the Democrats', writes the New York Times based on what the parties' committees and allies have managed to collect.

At the moment, the financial advantage is 600 million dollars, equivalent to just over 5.5 billion kronor. Republican opinion analyst Patrick Ruffini predicts that large sums will be spent on highlighting the negative sides of Democrats in key states.

- We will see a negative campaign.

Sources: Republicans will talk about something other than the president

The Republicans want to avoid the autumn midterm elections for the Senate and House of Representatives becoming a vote on President Donald Trump, writes Reuters. According to the news agency's sources, advisers and officials recently met in a meeting where they sketched out a plan focusing on tax cuts and measures against inflation.

In some circles, there is reportedly a fear that rising gas prices and Trump's low approval ratings will be a drag on the party's candidates. The Democrats will try to make the midterm elections a national issue, says an anonymous strategist.

- We have to break out of it and show, election by election, why we are the better option.

Today, the Republicans have a majority in both chambers.
