Political situation in the Philippines

Sara Duterte is criticized: "Creating drama"

Several members of the Philippine parliament are accusing Vice President Sara Duterte of "creating drama" instead of answering the corruption charges against her. That's what the Philippine Inquirer writes.

- We are horrified by the recent diversionary maneuvers, says House of Representatives member Arlene Brosas, who belongs to the opposition.

Duterte has been accused of misusing government funds during his time in government. She has left this after getting into an increasingly heated conflict with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Duterte, who however retained the title of vice president, earlier on Friday launched a fierce attack on Marcos Jr. During a two-hour long press conference, she said, among other things, that she "fantasized about chopping off his head".

The vice president threatens to dig up the president's father and throw him into the ocean

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte is threatening to dig up the body of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s father and throw it into the sea. That's what The Guardian writes.

- I will go there any day. I will take your father's body and throw it in the Philippine Sea, said Duterte.

Sara Duterte used to be a close ally of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, but recently the relationship has soured dangerously. Duterte has left the government but still holds the title of vice president. Their two powerful families are now in a bitter power struggle ahead of next year's mid-term elections.

The incumbent president's father, Ferdinand Marcos the Elder, ruled the Philippines as a dictator until 1986. In 2016, the former dictator was given a controversial "hero's burial."

A spokesperson for the president says he does not intend to respond to the vice president's statement.
