Raid bars and concerts in Kyiv in search of recruits

Ukraine's military has raided restaurants, bars and a large concert hall in Kyiv in search of conscripts, AP reports. Among other things, they allegedly checked military registration documents and detained men who did not follow the rules.

Such raids are unusual in the capital, writes the news agency, which believes that the action reflects Ukraine's crying need for new recruits. All Ukrainian men between the ages of 25 and 60 are conscription, and men aged 18–60 are not allowed to leave the country.

Ukraine stepped up its mobilization earlier this year, passing a law this spring that required all conscripts to enter information about themselves into an online system to avoid punishment. In addition, the country lowered the age of those eligible to be called up for military service from 27 to 25.

The political situation in Iceland
Iceland's government resigns - there will be new elections in November

Iceland's government is resigning and calling new elections after a rift in cooperation, announced Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson at a press conference, according to Morgunbladid.

The differences of opinion concern, among other things, the country's migration policy, where the Left-Greens have ended up on a collision course with the Independence Party and the Progress Party.

The Independence Party and the Progress Party are also said to be dissatisfied with statements made by Vänstern-De Greens party leader Svandis Svavarsdottir without talking to her government partners.

New elections are to be held on November 30.
