Israel lets in 50 trucks after US threats
On Wednesday, Israel allowed 50 trucks of emergency aid into Gaza, a day after the United States threatened to withdraw arms aid if the humanitarian situation did not improve within a month. The New York Times reports.
That is a fraction of what humanitarian organizations believe should be brought in, and also does not meet the US requirement of at least 350 trucks a day.
According to the responsible Israeli agency COGAT, 145 trucks were allowed in on Tuesday. A total of 465 trucks have been admitted in the first half of October, they add.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the US Foreign Ministry, states that emergency aid to Gaza has been cut in half compared to previous levels during the war.
