Brazil to replace older planes - may opt out of Gripen

Brazil has begun to look at replacements for around 40 Northrop⁠ F-5 fighter planes, which are to be phased out in the long term. The country's government has signaled that a second order to Saab may become relevant. But used F-16s and Indian LCA Tejas are among the options, reports the magazine Jane's and Dagens Industri.

Saab, which sold the Gripen to Brazil, states that it has a continuous dialogue with the country.

- If it becomes necessary to expand the fleet, we offer all versions of the Gripen, says press manager Mattias Rådström to the newspaper.
