The development of electric cars
Car manufacturers are pressured to invest in electricity - fines threaten

The struggling car manufacturers in Europe are facing an "electric car winter" due to new emission targets in the EU and fierce competition from China. That's what the FT writes.

Starting next year, manufacturers will have stricter requirements on the amount of carbon dioxide emissions they are allowed to contribute. One way to avoid large fines from the EU is to sell more electric and hybrid vehicles. But the market has slowed down and customers have become more price sensitive, the newspaper writes.

It guarantees an "electric car winter", comments Barclays analyst Henning Cosman.

- Customers feel they can get a better and cheaper electric car soon, which contributes to the downward spiral.

The new space race
Space X managed to land rocket for the first time

Space X conducted a fifth test flight with Starship on Sunday and succeeded for the first time in an important maneuver, writes Bloomberg. After helping the spacecraft into space, the booster rocket returned to the launch site in Texas and landed in the two "arms" of the launch tower.

- I am still in shock. I'm trying to catch my tears, just like the chopsticks caught the booster, says engineer Jessie Anderson.

Starship is the giant rocket that Elon Musk intends to use to make trips to the moon and Mars. That both of its parts – both the spacecraft and the booster rocket – can be reused is crucial to the plans.
