Attacks between the US and Iran – oil prices rise
First the US attacked.
Then Iran responded.
Now the oil price is rising.
The US carried out its first attack on Iran in several weeks on Sunday. The US military struck two launch pads when Iranian forces were reportedly seen preparing to launch new mines in the strait.
According to Iran's Revolutionary Guard, both soldiers and civilians were injured in the attack.
"The attacker will be punished," Iran's Revolutionary Guard said in a statement, according to the state news agency Fars.
Iranian attacks
The response came after a few hours. During the night, Iran carried out attacks on US bases in Jordan, CNN reports, citing the Pentagon.
Iranian ballistic missiles have reportedly been shot down and there is no information that any have hit their target according to the TV channel.
However, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps states that the attack on air bases in Jordan caused extensive damage.
Oil prices rise
The attack comes hours after the US military struck two Iranian launch pads at the Strait of Hormuz.
After the latest escalation of the war, the major stock exchanges in Asia are now seen to be falling. The price of oil has also been affected. At 6 a.m., the price of a barrel of Brent oil is just over $90 per barrel.
