Space welcomes all-seeing NASA telescope Roman

The US space agency NASA has launched the Roman telescope into space.

Roman will operate for many years and one goal of the high-performance telescope is to create an atlas of the cosmos by, among other things, taking celestial panoramas.

Ahead of the launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday, President Donald Trump said that Roman “will help unlock the secrets of the universe”. A deeply cherished hope is that the universe’s dark matter will be explored.

The telescope, formally named Nancy Grace Roman after an American astronomer, has taken more than a decade to build – at a cost equivalent to SEK 38 billion.

The launch took place with the help of a Space X Falcon rocket.
