Drone attacks on Zaporizhia nuclear power plant
Three drones have hit the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine this week, the UN atomic agency IAEA said.
“Radiation levels at the site remain normal,” the organization announced in a post on X.
A drone crashed on Tuesday near a cooling plant at the nuclear power plant, which is Europe’s largest.
Two more attacks occurred on Wednesday, when explosions occurred at a nuclear waste storage facility and a sprinkler system.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi says the attacks are unacceptable and calls for “maximum military restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.”
The nuclear power plant is controlled by Russian occupation forces. The IAEA has a permanent presence at the facility, whose six reactors have been shut down since 2022.
