US Attacks Iran – First Time in a Month
The US has attacked two Iranian launch pads on the island of Larak, US government sources tell several media outlets.
According to the sources, the Revolutionary Guard was preparing to launch sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
It is the first US attack on Iran in a month.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard confirms the attack and states that several soldiers and civilians were killed. The US will have to pay for the attack "both militarily and economically", they say in state media.
Iran's Response: Attacks on US Bases in Jordan
Iran's Revolutionary Guard claims to have attacked military targets in Jordan, AFP reports. This is in response to the US attacking targets in Iran for the first time in a month on Saturday evening.
The Revolutionary Guards say two US bases were hit in the attack. Jordan says it shot down eight missiles, without saying where they came from.
A US base in the United Arab Emirates was also attacked, the Revolutionary Guards said, according to AFP, citing state media.
The US justifies the new attacks, which were aimed at launch pads on the island of Larak, by saying it wants to prevent Iran from laying new mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump has published an AI-generated video overnight that depicts large explosions on the Iranian island of Kharg, writes Reuters. Kharg is an important center for Iran's oil trade.
"Kharg Island is being blown to pieces!!!", the president writes in the video.
There is no indication that the US has actually attacked the island. However, on Sunday evening the US attacked missile launchers on another Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz.
