King Haakon in his first speech: “Thank you very much”
King Haakon VIII addresses the Norwegian people in a speech to the nation. The live speech is being held from the Royal Palace in Oslo.
– Thank you very much, says the Norwegian king, who is dressed in a black suit and black tie, to all those gathered in front of the palace to honor the memory of King Harald.
– You were the head of the family, the king continues in his eulogy for his father.
Haakon then emphasizes that his father also had a great importance for the Norwegian people, not least during difficult times such as during the terrorist attacks on Utöya and the government offices in Oslo.
– He cried with us when we lost so many on Utöya and Oslo.
Then King Haakon speaks about the great change that has taken place in Norway since Harald was able to return to Norway after his exile during World War II and the Nazi occupation of Norway.
Then Haakon gets personal, and thanks for the support that Harald gave to his family during difficult times.
Haakon VIII sits at a desk, with two lit candles and a photograph of the late king next to him.
– Now we will be accompanied in both good and difficult times, says the king, emphasizing that everyone is of equal value in Norwegian society:
– We are one people.
