Major manhunt for perpetrators after rave shooting

A huge operation is underway in Aarau, Switzerland, after last night's shooting at a rave festival that killed at least one person, several media outlets report.

AFP's reporter at the scene says that roadblocks have been set up on highways as far as three miles from the crime scene. Blick has also published clips of heavily armed police patrols and a military helicopter hovering above the medieval city.

Witnesses tell the Swiss newspaper of horrific scenes during the shooting last night. One of them says they had to hide under a DJ booth when the shots began to echo across the festival. One of the witness's companions tried to revive a seriously injured woman, but was unsuccessful.

Police have confirmed that one person has died and five have been injured. They write that a hunt for the perpetrators is underway and that the motive behind the incident is being investigated.

"The hunt for the unknown perpetrator is ongoing. Possible motives and the details of the crime are still unclear," the police write.

In a later update, the police announced that a 22-year-old woman has died and that four men and a woman, aged between 24 and 27, are being treated in hospital with both minor and serious injuries.

In a video clip from the scene published by Blick, at least ten shots can be heard being fired. A witness tells the Swiss newspaper that four people opened fire on the festival, that three people are dead and seven are injured. This information has not been confirmed by the police.

Around 3,500 people were at the rave festival in the town of Aarau outside Basel. The shooting occurred at 2 a.m. and a large police operation has been underway since then. The defense is assisting the police in the operation and a military helicopter was seen circling over the area on Sunday morning, writes Blick.
