Centre Democrats invest millions against left-wing wave

Progressive Abdul el-Sayed's victory in the Democratic primary in Michigan is troubling the party's center phalanx, writes the New York Times.

The think tank Third Way, which consists of centrist Democrats, will now invest the equivalent of around 150 million kronor to oppose democratic socialists ahead of the 2028 election.

- We are preparing for the next battle, says the think tank's director Jonathan Cowan.

Abdul el-Sayed's victory was not as big as many had expected, but the result is still seen as a hard blow to Democrats who have said that the left-wing wave is limited to clearly liberal areas.

Money, dissatisfaction and redistricting can save the Republicans

The Democrats have a good chance of taking back the majority in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections in November, but the Republicans cannot completely rule out saving their control, writes the Washington Post.

Historically, midterm elections favor the party that does not have presidential power, but the Democrats are also struggling with public confidence that has only declined in the last ten years.

Added to this are the Republicans' well-stocked campaign coffers and the extensive changes to the electoral districts that have been made by the party's representatives in recent years.
