Venezuela: Exiled politicians return for talks
After several years in exile, opposition politician Dinorah Figuera has returned to Venezuela.
Talks between the government and the opposition on the country's political future began on Thursday.
Seven months after the US captured then-President Nicolás Maduro, the US-backed talks are now starting in the capital Caracas.
They are taking place between the country's interim government and Venezuela's opposition represented by Dinorah Figuera, who returned from exile the day before. The hope is that the talks will lead to elections being held in the country.
Figuera has previously called for changes to the Supreme Court and the National Electoral Council, two institutions that have been widely criticized following Maduro's disputed re-election in 2024.
Together, the parties will discuss both the recent earthquakes that claimed 6,000 lives and the strengthening of democracy in Venezuela.
