Nearly 4,000 cases of Ebola in Congo-Kinshasa

Ebola cases in Congo-Kinshasa continue to rise. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), confirmed cases in the country are approaching 4,000.

According to the latest figures, at least 1,751 people have now died as a result of the Ebola outbreak in the country.

At the same time, 3,874 cases have been confirmed.

The outbreak started in May and has been linked to the bundibugyo variant, against which there is currently no vaccine or specific treatment.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is now calling for more extensive efforts to combat the spread.

"The outbreak is spreading faster than we can scale up our efforts, and the number of new cases has doubled in some hotspots in the past week alone," the WHO chief wrote on X.
