Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, 42, will become the new British Prime Minister.

UK's third in seven weeks.

He will also be the country's youngest prime minister to date and the first with Indian parents.

In British politics and the Tories party, the whole sea is stormy.

It started with Boris Johnson resigning after the pandemic parties at 10 Downing Street. Subsequently, the replacement Liz Truss was forced to resign after budget chaos. In the middle of it all, the queen also died.

The person who will now try to get the country and the party right is Rishi Sunak, former finance minister under Boris Johnson. Sunak went on the pump against Liz Truss in the previous battle for the party leadership post.

This time - after challenger Penny Mordaunt failed to garner enough support - the way is open for Sunak to take over as leader of the Tories and be elected Prime Minister of the UK.

- We have chosen our next prime minister. It is a historic decision that shows the breadth and talent of our party, says Mordaunt to Sky.

During the process, there was speculation of a comeback for Boris Johnson - until Johnson himself came out and announced that he is not running.

Cameron: "Proud"

Sunak served as Chancellor of the Exchequer under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The prime minister-elect has previously been the head of a hedge fund. Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty are estimated to be worth £730 million. The merit list includes degrees from British Oxford and American Stanford.

Group leader Sir Graham Brady announced on Monday that Rishi Sunak will address the party circuit in the afternoon. A statement to the public is also expected.

Several party friends have expressed their support for the election. Including former Prime Minister David Cameron.

- Warm congratulations to Rishi Sunak who will become the Prime Minister and lead us through challenging times. I predicted a decade ago that the Tories would elect our first Indian-British Prime Minister and I am proud that it will happen. I wish Rishi all the best, he has my wholehearted support, Cameron writes on Twitter.

42-year-old Rishi Sunak was born in Southampton and has Indian parents. He will be the first British Prime Minister of Indian background as well as the youngest so far in the country's history.

King Charles is on his way to London to sack Liz Truss and appoint Rishi Sunak as the new Prime Minister. This is expected to happen on Tuesday, writes Sky.
