DEBATE. Dear Elon, think again!

No one in Sweden has escaped your and Tesla's fight against the Swedish trade union movement. It is – to use your own words – an absolutely crazy fight.

The Swedish model is one of the world's most successful in securing both workers' rights and fair wages as well as companies' access to well-educated skills in most industries.

Trade unions have been involved in building Sweden into the modern welfare state it is today, and this has created the conditions for the green transition.

It should be embraced, not rejected. Above all, by someone who had visions of being involved and contributing to the transition.

As a Tesla owner and Member of Parliament for the Green Party, I would like to urge you to resolve this conflict by meeting the union's demands for a collective agreement. The Swedish model is the guarantor of a transition that is sustainable for everyone.

I bought a Tesla in 2016 and since then many Swedes who had the financial space have done the same. My reasons were, among other things, that it really was time to start driving on electricity, the car was fantastic and last but not least, I was impressed by Tesla's importance for a green transition worldwide.

The vision of building cars that were stylish, cool and powered by electricity revolutionized the automotive market and did more to accelerate the transition in the automotive industry than anyone could have dreamed of.

There were many of us in Sweden who wanted to be involved and make an impact. By buying one of Tesla's cars, we were a part of that transition, a part of going ahead and doing our bit when it comes to reducing emissions and saving the earth from the doomsday scenarios of the climate crisis.

However, a commitment to the survival of this planet must go hand in hand with a desire to make the world better for everyone living here and now. Without justice, there will be no adjustment - and without adjustment, there will be no justice.

Elon, think again about this conflict. It would be so easy for you to remove this uncertainty with just a stroke of the pen.

To show that as a Tesla owner and customer you are safe, just as you are safe as an employee with you. Let us who were so proud to be part of being at the forefront of development continue to be. Let's be as excited for our cars as we were the first day we picked it up.

Show that you are not only at the forefront of technological development, which others can only envy, but also that you are at the forefront of workers' rights. That people should have the right to a safe and secure working environment with fair pay.

While I do have your attention, I want to take the opportunity to urge you to stop expressing yourself like a lunatic, spreading lies and pestering the public conversation.

X, formerly Twitter, has since your takeover become an increasingly problematic place filled with conspiracy theories and misinformation. Several of your posts on that platform have gone way beyond the line of decency. It too must end.

You are welcome any day to see how collective bargaining and union movements can build a strong country.

It has been a win-win for Sweden and it can be for Tesla as well. Because change requires justice - and justice requires change.

Janine Alm Ericson, Tesla owner and Member of Parliament (MP)
