Analysis: Thedéen should have ice in his stomach - a cut unlikely

Despite Thursday's unexpectedly high inflation figure, Riksbank Governor Erik Thedéen is best at "keeping a cool head," writes DI's Nils Åkesson in an analysis. January is always difficult to assess due to the rebalancing of the CPI basket. The Swedish economy is also continuing to be sluggish and, in addition, inflation is still close to the two percent target, he reasons.

Carl Johan von Seth believes that an interest rate cut is now very unlikely after this morning's "mini inflation shock". SCB's flash CPI confirms Thedéen's line of switching from regular cuts to a more wait-and-see approach. "Several analysts believe in a cut in May, but even that seems less likely", he writes.
