Expert: Putin may demand that Sweden leave NATO
One of Russia's demands in the negotiations with the US could be that NATO be restored to its 1997 borders – that is, before Sweden and Finland joined, as well as Poland and the Baltic states. This is what Jussi Lassila, a senior researcher at the Finnish Institute of Foreign Affairs, told the STT news agency.
– We must prepare for it and keep a cool head.
Russia now has a greater chance than ever of getting its demands through because Donald Trump seems to want to broker peace in Ukraine at any cost, according to Lassila.
The Kremlin has long painted NATO as a military threat, but in reality it is mostly about not wanting to lose its influence and letting states it sees as part of Russia's sphere of interest dictate their own foreign policy, he continues.

Trump fires 2,000 employees at USAID
The Trump administration is firing 2,000 employees at the US aid agency USAID. All but a fraction of the remaining staff will be laid off, reports the AP.
This comes the day after a judge gave the green light to the cuts at the agency, which were previously temporarily halted after unions took legal action.
USAID employees abroad – many of them in high-risk areas – will continue to have access to the agency's communication systems and will be flown home at the government's expense.

Governments ask employees to boycott Musk's emails
There is confusion in the US government world after Elon Musk threatened the country's 2.3 million government employees with dismissal in an email. Several agencies are advising their employees not to respond, reports the Washington Post.
The email was sent from Musk's efficiency department, Doge, and employees are asked to report on what they accomplished in the past week. According to Musk, a failure to respond will count as a resignation.
Among the agencies that advise their employees not to respond to the email are the FBI, which is led by Trump loyalist Kash Patel, and the State Department.
A defense official sees risks in responding to the email.
- Even if classified information is not sent, the compilation of all this information would constitute a threat to the national

Pope's condition still critical - has kidney failure
Pope Francis' health remains critical, the Vatican announced in an update on Sunday evening, according to news agencies.
The 88-year-old has not had shortness of breath again, but blood tests show that he has incipient kidney failure.
Doctors are still cautious in their prognosis due to the pope's "complex" medical condition, the Vatican added.
He has been in hospital for over a week, being treated for bilateral pneumonia.
