The shift in power in the US Trump's tariffs

Trump: Will speak with Canada and Mexico on Monday

Donald Trump will speak with Canada and Mexico on Monday morning, he tells reporters at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base. The announcement comes after a weekend in which Trump imposed 25 percent tariffs on his two neighboring countries and received the same in return.

– I don't expect anything particularly dramatic. We imposed tariffs. They owe us a lot of money, and I'm sure they will pay, Trump says according to The Hill.

He also says that the neighbors must stop "people from flowing in" across the border.

– They haven't stopped it, we have stopped it, Trump says.

Great Britain may escape Donald Trump's tariffs

Donald Trump has promised that the EU will be affected by his tariffs, but Great Britain may escape.

– I think it can be resolved, the American president tells reporters in Maryland.

Trump also stressed that he is dissatisfied with British trade policy. The president was more positive when he talked about his relationship with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

– We get along very well, says the president.

Trump also promised again to impose tariffs on goods from the EU.

The foreign policy chief: We need the US and the US needs us

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas criticizes Donald Trump's promise to impose tariffs on goods from the Union. Ahead of today's EU summit in Brussels, she was asked about the threat from the other side of the Atlantic.

– There are no winners in a trade war. If the US starts a trade war, China will laugh from the sidelines, she says, according to AFP.

Kallas says tariffs create costs and are bad for jobs.

– We need the US and the US needs us, she says.
