Aid organization: Famine and malaria are spreading
71 people have died of starvation in the region around the capital Khartoum in Sudan in recent days, reports the independent exile Sudanese Sudan Tribune. This means that the death toll due to acute malnutrition is now approaching 1200 in the area, where fighting between government forces and the RSF militia has raged for months.
According to the aid organization Emergency Room, the majority of those affected are the elderly and children. The organization has also registered thousands of cases of malaria and hundreds of cases of diarrhea.
The area is partly under the control of the RSF, and the situation is complicated by the government’s introduction of strict controls on which goods can be brought in.
