The warning for volcanic eruptions is lowered in Iceland
The authorities in Iceland have lowered the warning level for the risk of a volcanic eruption, Icelandic RUV reports.
The reduction means that residents of the Grindavik community can return to their homes and collect personal belongings. The community will be kept open between nine in the morning and four in the afternoon as long as the situation does not worsen.
Police chief Ulfar Luðviksson thanks the residents of Grindavik for their patience and hopes that they will soon be able to return to their homes.

Iceland is considering cooling the lava with water
Authorities in Iceland are considering using powerful pumps to cool and divert lava in the event of a volcanic eruption near the community of Grindavik. This is reported by Iceland Monitor.
The method was successfully used in an outbreak in 1973.
According to a statement from Iceland's Meteorological Institute on Wednesday evening, the risk of a major volcanic eruption is decreasing "with each passing day." Magma flow and seismic activity are said to be at a lower level than before.
In the next few days, the community's evacuated residents will once again be allowed to travel home to collect belongings.
