Namibia has – just like other oil countries – the right to extract its natural resources, says the president's adviser James Mnyupe to P3 Nyheter. He does not think it is appropriate for other countries to criticize the test drilling near the pristine Okavango Delta.
- I get mad, I get very angry.
Furthermore, Mnyupe points out, it is consumers in the Western world who will use the oil that is eventually extracted.
- You still drive an Audi that needs oil, and you want more.

Activist: Unspoiled world heritage threatened by oil drilling
The Okavango Delta in southern Africa is at risk of destruction as a result of oil drilling in the region, says climate activist Ina-Maria Shikongo to P3 Nyheter.
- You destroy a pristine environment, she says.
Located in Namibia and Botswana, the delta is largely untouched and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Canadian oil company Recon Africa is test drilling about 25 kilometers from the area and has said that it will expand operations in 2024.
CEO Brian Reinsborough has told Reuters the business is safe. Environmental activists, for their part, have claimed that an oil spill would risk affecting both humans and wildlife.
