The island nation of Tuvalu's Taiwan-friendly Prime Minister Kausea Natano looks set to lose his seat in parliament, according to preliminary election results.
Despite the fact that Tuvalu only has 11,200 inhabitants, the election is considered to have a relatively large impact on the situation in the region, writes Reuters.
Tuvalu has previously been one of only twelve countries to recognize Taiwan, but voices within the country have advocated that it should approach China instead.
Seve Paeniu, who challenged Natano for the leadership, has previously said that one needs to "review" the relationship with Taiwan. On Friday, his message is that the relationship will be debated by the new parliament during Saturday.
Tuvalu has no formal political parties, with each of the country's eight constituencies simply electing two
representatives to the country's government were.

increase in anti-Semitic attacks in Germany and the far-right AFP
gaining ground.
In the city of Osnabrück, Social Democrat Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned of the AFD.
