Prediction: Stubb and Haavisto are headed for a second round
With more than 80 percent of the votes counted in the Finnish presidential election, Yle has come up with his forecast. The Coalition Party's Alexander Stubb receives, according to it, 27.3 percent of voter support and the Greens' Pekka Haavisto comes second with 25.8 percent.
There had been speculation in advance that Sannfinländer's Jussi Halla-aho would be able to win and squeeze second place, but he only gets 18.6 percent.
According to the forecast, it will be Stubb and Haavisto who settle in the second round on February 11. The turnout in the first round is 74.9 percent, which is considered high.

Haavisto winner on Åland - Stump among Finnish
Swedes
When all the votes have been counted in the Åland electoral district, it is clear that Pekka Haavisto, who is connected to De gröna, is the clear favorite on the island. Yle reports.
He gets 50.4 percent support in the district, while Samlingspartiet's Alexander Stubb gets 40.8 percent. Third comes Li Andersson of the Vänsterförbundet with 3.3 percent support.
The fact that Haavisto is so strong on Åland can be explained by the fact that he clearly said no to soldiers being stationed on the island.
Stubb looks set to win the first round of the election. His support is clearest in the bilingual municipalities, Hufvudstadsbladet wrote when 87 percent of the votes were counted. In Ostrobothnia, he collects more than half of the support in seven municipalities.

"The next president must act exactly like our incumbent"
Whoever wins the presidential election in Finland has a difficult task ahead of them, says political scientist Thomas Karv to Expressen.
It is partly about difficult practical issues such as the relationship with Russia. But also that the current president Sauli Niinistö has become "some kind of father of the country" and is therefore not entirely easy to replace, according to Karv.
- In Finland, we expect the next president to act exactly like our current president, he tells the newspaper.
To Yle, a voter says that this year's presidential election is particularly important precisely because you cannot vote for Niinistö this time. If you got it, everyone would have already agreed.
- Niinistö is absolutely super. If ten is the maximum, I'll probably give ten and a half to Niinistö, says another.
