Exposing corruption in Ukraine: The state bought grenades that never arrived
Ukraine's security service SBU has revealed a major corruption scandal in the military's arms trade, writes Reuters.
At issue is that in August 2022 officials at the Department of Defense allegedly ordered 100,000 grenades that were paid in advance - but some grenades were never delivered. Five people at the ministry and the arms supplier Lviv Arsenal are suspected of embezzling the equivalent of just over SEK 400 million in connection with the deal.
"According to the investigation, former and current top officials at the Ministry of Defense and managers of partner companies are involved in the embezzlement," SBU writes in a statement.

The Israel-Hamas war|The attacks
Sources: Hamas' weapons depot was built from Israel's bombs
Many of the weapons used by the terrorist group Hamas in the October 7 attack on Israel came from an unexpected source - the Israeli military. This is reported by the New York Times with reference to sources in the military and the intelligence service.
New intelligence shows that Hamas has been able to build many of its rockets from stockpiles of munitions that failed to detonate when sporadically fired from Israel into Gaza over the years. According to the newspaper, an unexploded bomb of 340 kilos can be converted into hundreds of robots or rockets.
The terrorist group is also said to have armed its fighters with weapons stolen from Israeli military bases.
According to the NYT, the new information shows that Israel has underestimated Hamas' ability to obtain weapons. Neither Hamas nor Israel have commented on the information further.

The presidential election in Finland
"Hard" debate in the soft election - the rival apologized
The presidential election in Finland has been described as an almost unique "kind" election, something that was again felt during the closing debate between the candidates on Saturday evening.
After Harry "Hjallis" Harkimo claimed that the leftist candidate Li Andersson "does not appreciate those who have reading and writing difficulties", Andersson replied that it was not true, and that the comment was "very hurtful".
Then Hjallis apologized.
- I apologize to Li. I said this for sure, I appreciate you very much. You're a lovely fellow, even if you don't have the same thoughts about politics as I do, said Harkimo.
Swedish Yle describes the debate as "heated".
