The G20 countries split over Gaza and Ukraine
The G20 countries fail to agree on a joint statement after the summit in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Several sources tell Reuters that disagreements about how the wars in Gaza and Ukraine should be called are behind it.
The rich Western countries and Japan in the G7 bloc wanted to write the war "against" Ukraine, while Russia wanted to write the war "in" Ukraine, according to Reuters sources. The G7 countries wanted to call the war in Gaza a "humanitarian crisis" without mentioning Israel.
The geopolitical tensions have threatened to overshadow the summit's agenda. On top of that was a global minimum tax for the very richest at the suggestion of host country Brazil, which wanted the talks to focus on climate change and poverty reduction.

The House of Representatives votes through the temporary budget
The House of Representatives in the United States has voted through the proposal for a temporary budget to avoid a partial shutdown of the American government apparatus on Saturday, reports Bloomberg.
The next step is for the Senate to vote on it, which could happen as early as Friday night, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Other parts of the state's operations are still at risk of being shut down from March 23 if no agreement is reached on the entire budget year.
It was during the night of Thursday that the Democrats and Republicans agreed on the short-term budget supplement.
