US inflation picks up - but "sigh of relief"
US inflation picked up in January, according to the Fed's key measure core PCE. On a monthly basis, prices increased by 0.4 percent. It is the highest rate in nearly a year but in line with expectations, writes Trading Economics.
On an annual basis, core PCE was 2.8 percent, compared with 2.9 percent in December.
The markets initially react with a minor relief that the numbers did not come in higher than the forecasts. The US ten-year interest rate falls and the Stockholm Stock Exchange strengthens somewhat.
"In the middle of nowhere - with a sigh of relief! [...] But we need to come down a little more", tweets SEB's economist Robert Bergqvist.
