Analysis: The war has been going on for ten years - may be another ten years
It is the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, but the war actually started already ten years ago with Russia's annexation of Crimea, writes SVT's Bert Sundström in an analysis. And with the stalemate in the ongoing trench warfare, it is not impossible that the war will continue for another ten years, according to Sundström.
"The risk is clear that the war will only be decided when either the Russian or the Ukrainian military is forced to surrender."
The West's underestimation of Vladimir Putin's ambitions made the Russian attack possible in the early morning of February 24, 2022, writes DN's Michael Winiarski. Until then, the invasion was still only "partial".
Few experts foresee any significant gains on either side of the war in 2024, he continues. But the Russian president's larger goal – to wipe out Ukraine and split NATO – at least looks difficult to achieve, according to Winiarski.
How will the war in Ukraine end? asks Expressen's Mats Larsson. Given how wars usually end, it will probably end in diplomacy and negotiations.
"The war in Ukraine seems to be no exception, even if Putin is probably dreaming of the fall of Kyiv."

Stoltenberg: Putin's plans have not changed
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says on the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine that the situation remains "extremely serious".
- President Putin's goal of dominating Ukraine has not changed, and there are no indications that he is preparing for peace, Stoltenberg says.
At the same time, he believes that Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever and that "billions of dollars" in support are on the way.

Zelenskyy: Our victory day will be the best day in life
Ukraine will win over Russia - and it will be the best day in the life of Ukrainians. This is what President Volodymyr Zelensky writes on Telegram on the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion.
In the post, he addresses the people of Ukraine directly and writes that he is proud that they all continue to fight for the country's freedom.
"That is why the word 'independence' will always stand next to the word 'Ukraine' in the history of the future. Let's fight for it," writes the president.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister: We will win the war
If Ukraine receives the support it requires from the West, it will eventually win the war against Russia. This is what the country's foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba says in the UN General Assembly, AP reports.
- Ukraine survived the invasion. Ukraine will win the war. And if we act together, this will happen sooner rather than later.
The statement comes on the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, and Kuleba also points out that two years ago, many believed that Ukraine would lose quickly.
- Today, the same people believe that Ukraine cannot win the war. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now, he says.

The governor of the region, Igor Artamonov, says according to the news agency that a fire was detected in a workshop inside the factory area, but that it is now extinguished. He urges residents "not to panic and to only trust official information".
