Hungary has appointed a new president after the scandal
On Monday, Hungary's parliament elected political newcomer Tamás Sulyok, chief justice of the Constitutional Court, as the new president.
On March 5, he succeeds Katalin Novák, the country's first female president, who submitted her resignation today. She is resigning as a result of the political scandal that followed the revelation that she pardoned a man who was involved in a pedophile scandal.
During the transition period, Speaker László Kövér is acting president. It will be his task to sign the protocol on the approval of Sweden's NATO application.
