Sources in the West deny that Navalny would be replaced
There were talks in the West about offering Russia a prisoner exchange with Alexei Navalny. Official sources in the West told Politico.
The US and Germany were involved in the talks, but "no formal offer had been made" to the Kremlin, according to one of the sources.
This after Navalny's team claimed on Monday that a prisoner exchange was just days away when he died.
According to his associate Maria Pevtjich, Navalny and two American prisoners were to be exchanged for Vadim Krasikov, an employee of the Russian security service FSB, who is serving a life sentence for murder in Germany.

Navalny's team: Exchange with unknown Russian killer was just days away
Russian opposition politician Aleskey Navalny was to be freed in a prisoner exchange just days after he died, his team said in a video posted on social media. According to Maria Pevtjich, who speaks in the film, that explains the timing of Navalny's death.
She states that Navalny and two Americans were to be exchanged for Vadim Krasikov, employed by the Russian security service FSB and sentenced to life in prison for murder in Germany.
- I received information that the negotiations were in the final stages on the evening of February 15. On February 16, Aleksej was killed, says Pevtchich.
She adds that many Russians were on Navalny's side.
- Navalny was everything that Putin could never be. And Putin hated him for it.
In September, under the headline "Putin wants his killer back", the Wall Street Journal wrote that the imprisoned journalist Evan Gershkovich was considered for a swap with Krasikov.
