The China-Taiwan relationship
German ships off Taiwan stir up feelings in China

The Chinese military accuses Germany of raising tensions in the region after two German warships passed through the Taiwan Strait, Reuters reports.

It was last Friday that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the ships had passed the strait in the direction of the Philippines.

China, which sees self-governing Taiwan as part of its territory, claims it is "sending the wrong signals". The military states that the German ships were monitored and warned.

Fruitless hunt for Sinwar - not seen for eleven months

Almost a year after the Hamas attack in Israel, the country has not managed to get hold of the terrorist group's leader, Yayha Sinwar. He has not been seen in any other way than through security cameras that showed how he moved in the tunnels under Gaza together with his family, writes The Guardian.

That footage was shot three days after the October 2023 attack and came into Israeli possession much later. Intelligence and special forces in the military are using different methods to find Sinwar and Michael Milshtein, with a background in military intelligence, finds it remarkable that he has not yet been found.

Ram Ben-Barak, with a background in the Mossad security service, points out that the forces must take into account the risks of hostages.

- If there were no such obstacles, we would have found him more easily.

Task: Israeli soldiers stormed Syrian arms factory

Israel carried out an operation in Syria last weekend that destroyed one of the weapons production facilities of the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah, sources told the New York Times.

The dawn raid was carried out partly by airstrikes and partly by dropping soldiers onto the ground from helicopters. The purpose of using soldiers on the ground is said to have been to reach the lower floors of the facility and gather evidence. Drones are said to have been used against Syrian troops nearby.

The sources and independent experts believe that the weapons facility is financed by Syria's ally Iran as well as Hezbollah and Hamas.
