Prosecutors are seeking six years in prison for Salvini
Far-right politician Matteo Salvini, Italy's deputy prime minister, risks a long-term prison sentence. A prosecutor has asked for six years in prison after Salvini stopped a boat with 147 migrants from docking in one of the country's ports in 2019, several media reports.
The legal case against the Lega party leader Salvini, who was previously interior minister, has been going on for several years. According to the lawyer for the organization Open Arms, which operated the migrant boat, a verdict could come next month.
In a statement on social media, Salvini says he is displeased.
"Madness. Defending Italy is not a crime," he writes.

Six foreigners arrested for plotting against Maduro
Venezuela has arrested six foreign people, including an American soldier in the Navy Seal fleet, suspected of being involved in a plot to destabilize the Latin American country, writes CNN.
According to Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, the plot was led by the CIA with the goal of assassinating the country's leader Nicolás Maduro. The US State Department dismisses the information as false.
Spain also rejects accusations that Madrid was involved in the plot since two Spanish citizens were arrested, a source told AFP. Those arrested should not be part of the Spanish intelligence service CNI.
