The world's response
1,000 Patriot missiles to Ukraine - takes EU loan

Ukraine will receive 1,000 new Patriot air defense missiles with the help of allies and EU loans, Defense Minister Yevheniy Chmara said according to Reuters.

Chmara added that the majority of these will not be delivered until the coming years, and called for faster help.

The shortage of Patriot missiles, which are the backbone of Ukraine's defense against Russian ballistic missiles, has made Russia's air strikes increasingly deadly in recent months.

The EU is making an exception and allowing Ukraine to spend part of its 90 billion euro loan on the US-made missiles, writes AFP. The money is otherwise intended to be invested in European weapons.

Negotiations
Zelenskyj on talks with Russia: “Possible this month”

A trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the US may be possible as early as September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj said, according to AFP.

The announcement comes after American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited both Moscow and Kyiv with a new peace proposal this weekend.

“If all parties agree, we also want to hold it in the fall. If September works, that would be excellent. The sooner, the better,” Zelensky told reporters on Tuesday.

The Kremlin has also opened up for such a meeting. However, Russia has been clear that it will not compromise on its peace demands.
