“Shocking” – EU criticism of Mladic tribute
The EU leadership is tightening its tone regarding the funeral of war criminal Ratko Mladic in Serbia, after criticism of overly evasive words.
“The images from Ratko Mladic’s funeral yesterday in Belgrade were shocking. . . Official support and the presence of certain Serbian officials at the funeral are deeply regrettable,” wrote EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council President António Costa in identical posts on X.
The words come after the EU received criticism for not having condemned Serbia’s actions strongly enough, where, among others, the country’s defense and justice ministers were present at the funeral.
“Very bad,” said, for example, the Prime Minister of neighboring Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, about the fact that the EU leadership initially only commented via various spokespeople.
